Prophecy Code Seminar

We've been watching the Prophecy Code series from home, as our church is forty minutes away. As we don't have a satellite dish, we're watching over the internet.

The feed directly from the series website is fairly good at times, but we've also run into technical difficulties with it. When that happens, we switch to the 3ABN television feed, which seems to be more reliable, if somewhat lower in quality.

The Groundhog Was Right!

I know there must be several thousand blog posts like this one today, but it's an astonishing thing: Last night, as we left rehearsal around 7:30 PM (well after sundown) the temperature was 70 degrees Farenheit. This morning it's snowing, and we have more than an inch of accumulation already. That's a 40 degree delta in about 13 hours.

Cello Practice

A local music teacher, EB, someone who worked with my late great-aunt Grace Nicola, is supplying a few violinists for a production of the Dubios Seven Last Words. She was happy to hear that Vicki could cover the string bass part, and gave me the cello part in case she fails to hire a real cellist.

So I've been practicing with Vicki. The part has three significant solo/sectional passages, near the end of the 2nd word (Verily), and at the beginning and end of the 4th and 6th words. I NEED HELP! I love playing this part, but I would like very much to play it well. If you play cello and have a favorite fingering for these passages, especially the 4th word, please let me know.

Blog-following Pointers

Just a couple:
  1. You can see the blogs that I write or read (some more often than others) by looking down the left side-bar here, below the "I Power Blogger" button. This list of favorite blogs is called a blogroll.
  2. You can follow this blog (and most others) by using a RSS reader. One that's freely available is a web-site called Bloglines. If you click the "Sub Bloglines" button just above my blogroll, you'll have the chance to set up your own Bloglines account. Bloglines offers several ways to notify you when a weblog you watch has a new post, and it's very easy to add other weblogs after your initial account set-up.

I needed that!

This had me laughing with tears streaming down my cheeks. Yeah, it's probably just because I really need a good laugh about now. But try it: see what it does for you!

[In case you're worried, it's a French comedian playing classical music.]

My thanks to Tourbus for this rib tickler.
