Hi Daniel,
A friend of mine had the same problem with her T61 (to the point where it wouldn't run unless it was sitting on a cooling pad). She sent it in for service and it turned out to be a faulty CPU fan. Don't know if your Thinkpad has the same problem, but maybe something to consider.
