About me

Why stop there?

As is documented on this page, a choir of volunteer choristers is gathering to sing at the October 26 wedding of my friends David and Jamie. I'm hoping for at least 24 singers.

In addition to the Sunday afternoon wedding service, most of the choir will also sing for the Sabbath morning service October 25 at the Frederick SDA church.

Our selections are likely to be taken from the wedding music, but, depending on the sermon topic, we might also choose any of the following as our anthem:

  • Psalm 43 - Mendelssohn
  • Selig Sind die Toten - Schütz
  • God So Loved the World - Stainer

Would you like to sing with us? Send me an e-mail!

The Music

Because we will have almost no rehearsal time, please study with these recordings. If you like them, buy the CDs. Highly recommended.

If you purchase any of the CDs through these links, offered in association with Amazon.com, a small cut of the price will eventually come my way, helping to offset the purchase and distribution of sheet music for this weekend of events.

Selig sind die Toten - H. Schütz
performed by Voices of Ascension,
from their CD Beyond Chant
cover
    English translation
Selig sind die Toten,
die in dem Herren sterben von nun an.
Ja, der Geist spricht:
Sie ruhen von ihrer Arbeit
und ihre Werke folgen ihnen nach.

Blessed are the dead
those who die in the Lord from now on.
Yes, the Spirit says:
They rest from their work
    and their works follow them.
-- Revelation 14:13

Psalm 43 - F. Mendelssohn
performed by Voices of Ascension,
from their CD Mysteries Beyond: Songs and Chants in Praise of Mary
cover
    English translation:

Richte mich, Gott,
    und führe meine Sache
    wider das unheilige Volk,
und errette mich von den falschen
    und bösen Leuten.
Denn du bist der Gott,
    du bist der Gott meiner Stärke;
    warum verstössest du mich?
Warum lässest du mich so traurig geh'n,
    wenn mein Feind mich drängt?
Sende dein Licht
    und deine Wahrheit,
    dass sie mich leiten
    zu deinem heiligen Berge,
    und zu deiner Wohnung.
Dass ich hinein gehe zum Altar Gottes,
    zu dem Gott,
der meine Freude und Wonne ist,
und dir, Gott, auf der Harfe
    danke, mein Gott.
Was betrübst du dich, meine Seele,
und bist so unruhig in mir?
Harre auf Gott!
denn ich werde ihm noch danken,
dass er meines Angesichts Hülfe,
    und mein Gott ist.

Judge me, O God,
    and plead my cause
    against an ungodly nation:
O deliver me from the deceitful
    and unjust man.
For thou art the God
    of my strength:
why dost thou cast me off?
Why go I mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy? O send out thy light
    and thy truth:
    let them lead me;
let them bring me unto thy holy hill,
    and to thy tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God,
    unto God
my exceeding joy:
yea, upon the harp will I
praise thee, O God my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
and why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope in God:
for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health of my countenance,
    and my God.
-- Psalm 43

God So Loved the World - Stainer
performed by the choir of Guildford Cathedral,
from the CD The Crucifixion
God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son
that whoso believeth on Him
should not perish
but have everlasting life. -- John 3:16
